Guest mick Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Two thin electrical(?) strips, similar to rear window heating elements are present on the rear-most side window on drivers side (RHD), in the shape of a triangle (OK, third side or base missing!). Any clues what they are for? If associated with the alarm system, why only on one side, and the same if they are for heaters - not that I have noticed any demisting effect. Quote
Guest mick Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Ahhhh! Hadn't occured to me that's what it was. Had guessed the Ae was integral with rear (or front) screen elements. Cheers SA! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Agreed - it is the radio aerial, and the Galaxy is certainly not alone in using this type of aerial. There are now laods of cars, especially estates and MPVs that use this method. Gives the vandals one less reason to target the car too. Quote
iainkirk Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 ...and it only works if the "9 volt battery" connector at the top is actually connected - unbelievable the amount I've seen that aren't! It's not a particularly new idea - my 1989 Orion used the rear screen heater element as the aerial. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted November 25, 2003 Report Posted November 25, 2003 Yes, and we designed the original rear screen/aerial unit - called "BiFi" at the time. We sold the IPR to SEI in Salford in the early eighties, who then made them for Ford and others. They were fitted to Mk3 Escorts, all Sierras, all Mk2 Grannies onward..... Even remember how to fix them (SEI dry joints!!!) Nice to be part of history! Quote
